Fishing
Eonish Lake and the numerous adjoining lakes of the Lough Oughter system are a top fisheries location for bream, roach and pike. Eonish Lake is renowned for pike fishing from October onwards either from the lakeshore or from a boat. This photograph was taken in November 2008 by one of our guests.
Within Walking Distance
Island House is only a short distance from the lakeshore. Where you can relax and enjoy undisturbed fishing surrounded by the natural wildlife of the countryside. The road continues for a further 2km past the house for leisurely walks and more fishing locations along the lakeshore.
Within 10 kilometres
Killykeen Forest Park is only a 10 minute boat trip along the lake or a short 3km drive. Its facilities include superb match stretches, nature trails and walks. You can also see the 12th century Clough Oughter Castle from Dernish More Point. There are several golf courses within the area for those who enjoy a round of golf. Marble Arch Caves
Located near Marlbank, Florencecourt, Co. Fermanagh, the Marble Arch caves are one on the many geopark sites in Fermanagh and Cavan. Simply explore the Marble Arch Caves Visitors Centre or for the more adventurous, travel on the underground Cladagh River before following a cave guide on foot as you find out about the strange and unusual subterranean world of Marble Arch Caves.
Swan Island
Located along the Shannon-Erne Waterway, Swan Island is a treat for all the family with traditional and rare animals to see and feed. A floating jetty at the farm ensures secure morring for visitors arriving by boat. There is also a children’s play area and Davy’s Cottage Restaurant.
Cavan Heritage and Genealogy Centre
Located in Cavan town in the Johnston Central Library on Farnham St., the County Cavan Genealogical Research Centre offers a full genealogical research service for people with Cavan ancestry. It contains church records of baptisms, marriages, burials, civil records of births, deaths, marriages, census records, pre and post famine land records and numerous other sources of a genealogical nature.

Drumlane Abbey
Located near Milltown, Bellturbet, Co. Cavan, Drumlane Monastery occpies a very scenic site on the edge of a lake which forms one of the north-westerly outliers from Lough Oughter. The remains are of a round tower, church graveyard, fragments of a croos-inscribed stone and the site of a priory.

Kilmore Cathedral
Located on the Killeshandra Road in County Cavan, this site became the seat of a bishop, with a cathedral, in 1454. A new Church of Ireland Cathedral was built in the 19th century. A famous Romanesque doorway in to the cathedral dates to the late 12th, early 13th century.
